Independent Review of Social Work England: Accountability Under Review
The government has launched an independent review of Social Work England, examining how the regulator is governed and how effectively it supports and protects both practitioners and the people they serve.
The review will look at leadership, accountability, transparency, and the regulator’s role in driving standards across social work practice.
This matters because strong governance at the top of a system directly shapes the confidence, consistency and culture of the professionals within it.
At Emmaus Safe, we see the same truth across all sectors: regulation only works when those responsible for upholding it have the clarity and tools to do so confidently.
This review is a moment to ask bigger questions about the systems designed to protect people:
-
Are they consistent?
-
Are they trusted?
-
Do they make it easier — or harder — for professionals to do the right thing?
Because when systems work clearly, people work confidently.
