Cricket’s Safeguarding Review: A Step Toward Shared Accountability

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the national cricket regulator have published their response to an external safeguarding review, committing to stronger systems and shared accountability across the game.

The review examined how the sport manages concerns and information-sharing between clubs, police, and governing bodies. In response, the ECB has pledged to strengthen digital reporting pathways, clarify roles and responsibilities, and support local safeguarding leads with more consistent oversight.

This marks an important step toward transparency and cultural change — recognising that safeguarding doesn’t sit with one person or one department. It’s shared, lived, and demonstrated through the actions of everyone involved in sport.
