Building Confidence: New Leadership for the Safe Sport Project Announced

UK Sport and Sport England have announced the appointment of a new Chair and Director to lead the Safe Sport Project— a national initiative designed to build a consistent, independent safeguarding system across all levels of UK sport.

The appointments mark a renewed commitment to strengthening safety and integrity in sport, following growing calls for greater transparency, accountability, and culture change.

The Safe Sport Project aims to deliver a unified approach that ensures every athlete, coach, and volunteer — from community clubs to elite teams — operates within clear, trusted frameworks for safeguarding and welfare.

Both organisations emphasised that the leadership team will play a pivotal role in driving collaboration across governing bodies, embedding independence in safeguarding decisions, and setting the cultural tone for future generations of sport.
